Applications are invited for a postdoctoral appointment in extragalactic astronomy at Leiden Observatory. The successful candidate will join the research group of Prof. Mariska Kriek to conduct photometric and spectroscopic studies of galaxies across cosmic time, with a primary focus on JWST data. Candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply: (1) stellar/gas kinematics and dynamical modeling (2) chemical abundances and chemical evolution modeling (3) resolved stellar population studies (4) creating mock observations from galaxy simulations (5) developing stellar population synthesis models (6) applying machine learning techniques to interpret photometric and spectroscopic data.
Applicants must have a PhD in physics, astronomy, or a closely related field at the time of appointment. The postdoc is for three years, subject to a review during the second year. The starting date is negotiable. Applications should be submitted electronically by the deadline of January 6, 2025. A complete application includes a cover letter, CV, publication list, and a statement of research experience and interests (maximum 2 pages). In addition, applicants should arrange for three reference letters to be submitted at the same web link before the indicated deadline. Questions may be directed to Prof. Mariska Kriek (kriek@strw.leidenuniv.nl).
